THOM JOHNSTON BRINGS TOGETHER LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL ACTS FOR AMBITIOUS NEW SELF-TAPED PROJECT
album out friday november the 20th // selected feature tracks can be played prior to release
On Friday November 20th, upstairs at The Railway Hotel (Fitzroy North), Thom Johnston will be celebrating the release of his physical (and Bandcamp) only album with features from both local and international acts.
“For ‘By the Bedside’, I wanted to take a very tactile approach to the release campaign and show”, said Johnston, “with everything happening so quickly now and the lack of owning physical media, I wanted to create something real”.
The album feels like a bunch of friends sitting in a circle passing the acoustic guitar around, with an assortment of covers like Angus & Julia Stone hit, ‘Big Jet Plane (which features Caitlyn Daley of The Robbies)’, and Oasis classic ‘Slide Away (with Swedish up-and-comer The Name Will)’, as well as original songs that would otherwise not be released anywhere else such as ‘A little less than perfect (featuring Mila May)’ and a solo-acoustic version of Thom’s debut single ‘Shiver’.
Accompanying the release of the record, Thom and his band will play with openers Ruby Hunter-Murphy & The Boatmen in a ‘bed’ themed gig. Everyone will be encouraged to dress as relaxed as possible in the beautiful upstairs ballroom, where the stage will be set out to look like a bedroom (with a bed being on stage).
